The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) has signed a contract with the Indian company Virchow Biotech to produce the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine. India will annually produce 200 million doses of the Russian vaccine.
The first overseas tranche produced by an Indian company will include injections for 100 million people. India also plans to make “Sputnik V” for its citizens. According to forecasts, the drug will appear on the domestic market of the country from April this year.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that to date, contracts have been signed with foreign companies for the production of 700 million doses of Sputnik V per year.
The Sputnik V vaccine was developed by the Gamaleya Research Center for Electrochemistry. The drug became the world’s first registered coronavirus vaccine. It is based on an adenoviral platform, which ensures high efficiency and safety.
