Ukraine fears completion of Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal said that the completion of the Nord Stream-2 project would strengthen Russian “aggression”.

In an interview with the German newspaper Handelsblat, Shmygal said that if the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2 is put into operation and Russia gets higher profits, therefore, it will be able to better finance its “aggressive actions in Ukraine”.

“This cannot coincide with the interests of the EU”, – Shmygal said.

The day before, he took part in the German-Ukrainian Economic Forum, which was held in Berlin. However, neither the Ukrainian prime minister himself, nor other representatives of Kiev began to touch upon the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, which is the main irritant in relations between Ukraine and Germany.

Nord Stream-2 envisages the construction of two directions of a gas pipeline with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the shores of Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea.
