European Commissioner says EU does not need “Sputnik V”

European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton said on the TF1 TV channel that the European Union does not need the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine.

“Since we are the continent with the largest number of vaccines approved by the medical regulator – four – and we are the leader in their production, we will have absolutely no need for Sputnik V and other drugs”, – Breton said.

He noted that from March to June, between 300 and 350 million doses of coronavirus vaccines will be delivered to European countries. According to Breton, the EU will be able to achieve herd immunity by about mid-July.

Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siyjarto spoke about the attacks from the EU after the decision to approve the Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus.

The Sputnik V drug was developed by the Gamaleya Research Center for Electrochemistry and became the world’s first registered vaccine against coronavirus. The basis of the drug is the adenoviral platform, which ensures high efficiency and safety.
