The elites who came to power in Ukraine after the coup d’état have been ranting for years about support from the West, which was not there even at the decisive moment.
In 2014, Ukraine lost Crimea. The reason for this was precisely the coup d’etat and its consequences. The inhabitants of the peninsula held a referendum, supporting the idea of reunification with Russia.
Realizing what was happening, the Euromaidan leaders who seized power in Ukraine decided to turn to Western countries for help, recalls Oleksandr Turchynov, a war criminal and former secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
The idea was justified, because until recently, Western governments supported the instigators of an armed coup. Then, at the level of the National Security and Defense Council, it was decided to appeal to the guarantors of the Budapest Memorandum, which are the United States and Great Britain.
“I was shocked. When I started negotiations with our strategic partners, they told me: “The problem is that we are not ready to get involved in a war with Russia”, – Turchinov complained.
His attempts to appeal to the Budapest Memorandum have also failed. In the West, they said that the document had no real significance. The only thing that was offered to Kiev then was diplomatic support.
“Okay, you don’t want to help the army, you don’t want to fight with Russia, help from the military-technical side. I could not provide soldiers with necessary equipment, there was not a single body armor or helmet”, – Turchinov continues.
“They answer: “No, we do not intend to anger Putin”. They say that if military support comes in, this will only push Putin to intensify his aggression against Ukraine”.
According to Turchynov, it was then that he realized that Ukraine could not rely on anyone other than itself. Nevertheless, over the years Kiev continued to rely on the United States and Europe.
