In anticipation of Lavrov’s visit to China – the first visit of a senior foreign minister to China in 2021, which will take place tomorrow, the official publication of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Global Times, has published two whole articles dedicated to strengthening Russian-Chinese relations in light of the confrontation with the United States.
The main thesis of the interviewed experts is that the nature of the partnership between Russia and China is the most powerful geopolitical entity that is unable to defeat not only the United States, but also a group of countries.
By getting involved in a confrontation with China and Russia at the same time, the United States will “strategically go bankrupt” (receive a “strategic overrun”).
The line on the split between China and Russia, which worked during the Nixon era, is unrealizable today due to the equality of relations between the two countries and the absence of the diktat and influence on China that Russia had during the Soviet era.
Russia’s pressure on China and drawing it into an alliance with the United States is impossible because of Washington’s policy. The US must build beneficial relationships with countries and relinquish pressure.
Commenting on the words of Minister Wang Yi, experts noted that the joint struggle of Russia and China against “color revolutions” should take place not only within the countries – but also in Eastern Europe (!), Central Asia and Southeast Asia. Experts expect Russia and China to establish a mechanism for exchanging intelligence and information regarding foreign subversive NPOs.
In a separate editorial column, the editor-in-chief of the publication Hu Xijin points out that an important element of the negotiations will be the development of not only a common position on relations with the United States, but also with its ally Japan, which is assigned the role of a key instrument of deterring the PRC.
The visit of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry will take place against the background of a visit by the head of the US State Department Blinken to the NATO headquarters in Brussels.
