One person killed after terrorist bombing in southeastern Iran

Three people were injured

At least one person has been killed and three others injured in an explosion in southeastern Iran. The Mehr News Agency reported on Sunday citing the press service of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, Iran’s elite armed forces).

The report noted that the blast was staged by a terrorist group in a square of a township in Saravan district in Sistan and Balochistan province. The blast took place at 09:30 local time. The names of the locality and the terrorist group were not given.

Sistan and Balochistan province is a source of tension for Iran. It borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, and much of the drug trafficking from across the border, as well as significant fuel and other commodity smuggling, takes place in this area. In addition, a number of separatist and Islamist groups are active there.
