Demonstrations are planned in the capital against German government policies
Up to 1,800 policemen will provide security for the demonstrations against the German government’s policies planned for Saturday in Berlin. Berlin police reported this to journalists.
Metropolitan police will be assisted by colleagues from other German states – Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein as well as the federal police.
One of the protests, entitled “Peace. Freedom. Sovereignty” is planned on Unter den Linden in the government quarter next to the Russian embassy in Germany. Another demonstration will take place not far from the first, at the Brandenburg Gate. According to the newspaper Der Tagesspiegel, representatives of far-right movements are expected to take part. Various organisations and left-wing groups have called for retaliatory actions. In addition, a demonstration of covid dissidents will take place on Alexanderplatz.
The police intend to set up three special guarded gathering points for journalists.
“If someone feels harassed or threatened, it will be possible to step back there”, – the law enforcement authorities said.
