Merkel did not rule out the procurement of Sputnik V in Germany unless an agreement is reached at EU level.

“Regarding the Russian vaccine, I have been of the opinion since certain times that we should use any vaccine in the EU that is approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). I would prefer European procurement. If it does not come to such European procurements, and there are no indications that it will, then we will have to go the German route alone. <…> It is possible, and that is what we will do then,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel said.

The chancellor also said she was ready to vaccinate with the AstraZeneca vaccine, but her turn had not yet come.
