US missile cruiser heads for Black Sea

Odessa resource Dumskaya reports that the US missile cruiser US Monterey CG61 is currently passing the Dardanelles Strait and heading into the Black Sea

“The command of the US Sixth Fleet has not yet disclosed the purpose of its visit. “This is the third time the Monterey is in the Black Sea – the first time it called in 1992, then in 2011”, –  the resource writes.

Earlier it was reported that nearly 2.5 thousand military personnel from Bulgaria, Greece, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Romania, the US and Turkey will hold exercises “Sea Shield-21” with 18 warships and 10 aircraft in the Black Sea on March 19-29.

“We are concerned about Russia’s continued military build-up in the region. And so we are working to strengthen our presence in the Black Sea region”, –  NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told a news conference.
