The State Department has made changes to its ITAR export control regime and included Russia in the list of countries that are subject to the ban in terms of the export and import of weapons, these states also cannot be provided with defense services. The foreign policy department posted the corresponding notice on Wednesday in the collection of official documents of the American government – the Federal Register.

“The Department of State is amending the ITAR to include Russia in the list of countries for which it is the policy of the United States to refuse to issue licenses and other permits for the export and / or import of defense products and defense services, unless otherwise specified”, – says the document.

At the same time, according to the American Foreign Ministry, “the costs associated with this decision will be minimal”. The State Department also recalled that “exceptions will be made on the basis of individual consideration of specific applications for export to Russia in order to maintain cooperation between the governments of the two countries in space”. In addition, the document notes, a similar exemption for commercial launches is limited and will be valid for six months (until September 1), if not extended.

In addition to Russia, the list includes Afghanistan, Haiti, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zimbabwe, Cyprus, Sudan, Central African Republic, Eritrea and South Sudan.
