Earlier, London indicated plans to increase its nuclear arsenal in its defence strategy
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the British government’s decision to increase its nuclear potential is unmotivated and politically damaging, Radio Sputnik reports; Moscow will take it into account in its military planning.
“This decision is unmotivated, politically harmful, if not damaging in terms of the task of strengthening international stability and security. The arguments that are given to justify it are false”, – Ryabkov said.
He pointed out that such a decision by the UK shows that the focus of its approach to international affairs has shifted “towards the absurd. According to him, the United States’ closest ally, London, “is dealing a serious blow to the very concept of arms control.”
“From the position of the Foreign Ministry I can say that the 40 per cent leap in the arsenal of nuclear warheads is certainly a serious factor that will have to be taken into account, including in our military planning”, – the diplomat added.
