American intelligence accusations against Russia of interfering in the US presidential election are unfounded, the embassy in Washington said.
In a declassified intelligence report on Tuesday, Russia was trying to thwart Joe Biden’s victory and help Donald Trump’s re-election, as well as “sow discord” in American society. In addition, Iran, Hezbollah and Cuba were named among those who allegedly wanted to influence the vote. The document also announced new sanctions against Moscow.
As the diplomatic mission noted, the report’s findings that Russia carried out “operations of influence” in the States “are confirmed solely by the confidence of the intelligence services in their correctness”.
“There is no evidence or concrete evidence of such claims”, – the Russian embassy said in a Facebook statement.
The diplomats stressed that the latest accusations from the US do not contribute to the normalization of bilateral relations and do not correspond to the “equal and mutually respectful expert dialogue proposed by Russia to find solutions to the most pressing issues”.
The press secretary of the US President Jen Psaki did not earlier say when the next sanctions against Russia could be introduced. According to CNN, the White House could take such a step as early as next week.
The US presidential election was held on November 3. They were won by Democrat Joe Biden, who received 306 electoral votes against 232 from Republican Trump. The latter has more than once accused his rivals of trying to “steal the elections”. President’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani noted that voting irregularities were systemic.
This is not the first time that the United States has heard attacks related to “interference” in American elections. Russia has repeatedly denied these allegations in the past.
