Taliban reject peace plan proposed by US

The radical Islamist movement “Taliban” has rejected a new plan for the peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, proposed by the Americans

This was reported by Bakhtar News Agency, citing the representative of the Taliban political office Naeem Wardak.

“The idea of transitional governments is untenable. Events in Afghanistan over the past 40 years and the wars that have raged in the country confirm the unsustainability of such a construct. Transitional governments were set up after the US occupation, but none of them solved the country’s problems”, –  Wardak said.

He said an interim government with all the stakeholders involved would not “meet Afghanistan’s challenges”. The Taliban continue to push for withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan as per the agreement signed a year ago with the US.
In February 2020, former US President Donald Trump’s administration signed a peace deal in Doha with the Taliban.

According to the agreement, the United States and its allies undertake to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan within 14 months; in return, the Taliban will not use the country for activities that threaten the security of the United States and its allies.
