New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city lost more people to the coronavirus than during World War II, the Vietnam War, Hurricane Sandy and the 9/11 attacks combined
“Every morning the first thing I see is the list and the number on it. The main thing is how many people we’ve lost, how many New Yorkers have gone, how many neighbours, how many relatives. Today that number is more than 30,000”, – the mayor said at a ceremony commemorating the victims of the pandemic coronavirus.
Blasio said the effects of the coronavirus affected every family in one way or another. During the first wave of the pandemic in the United States, which occurred last spring, New York was at the centre of the pandemic, with more than 700 people dying a day on the worst days.
