The Defence Committee of the UK House of Commons has released a report on the state of the state’s armoured forces, which describes a possible armed conflict between Britain and Russia
“If the British Army were to fight an equal opponent, by which we mean Russia, in Eastern Europe in the next few years, our soldiers, while undoubtedly still among the best in the world, would be forced to go into battle using outdated and even obsolete armoured vehicles to a deep shame. Many of these vehicles are over 30 years old, have very poor mechanical reliability, and are seriously undermined in terms of firepower by modern artillery and missile systems”, – it said.
The British parliamentarians emphasized that the country’s Defence Ministry is aware of the need to upgrade its military hardware, but the combat vehicles remain obsolete and in urgent need of modernization.
The authors of the report also mentioned the promising Russian Armata tank and Russia’s creation of modern armor for other combat vehicles currently in service.
“The special reduced division to be created by 2025 will not be able to beat the modern Russian armoured division, but rather will be outclassed”, – says Brigadier General Ben Barry.
