The toughest case: the US Justice Department assessed the Capitol assault investigation

The US Justice Department has called the investigation into the storming of the Capitol by supporters of former US President Donald Trump the “most complicated” case in the department’s history

“The investigation and prosecution of the Capitol assault is likely to be one of the largest in US history, both in terms of the number of defendants and the volume and nature of evidence”, –  the DOJ said.

The total number of people who could face prosecution would be more than 400. About 900 search warrants have been obtained in almost every state in the country during the investigation. Also attached to the case are more than 15,000 hours of video.

There is an ongoing investigation into the US riots that took place on January 6, 2021. On that day, Trump supporters stormed the US Congress building in an attempt to prevent the results of the presidential election, which was won by Democrat Joe Biden. Five people were killed in the riots for various reasons.
