Mourning rally for the abduction and murder of young London resident Sarah Everard

Mourning vigils with candles were due to take place in the London borough of Clapham, where Sarah Everard was last seen in her lifetime, in around 40 other cities across Britain on Saturday under the slogan Reclaim These Streets.

But the police said that with all due respect for the feelings of the organisers of these vigils they could not consider them legitimate under lockdown conditions.

As a result, most of the approximately 45 vigils were officially cancelled, with people in Clapham bringing and laying flowers one by one in the afternoon, and the Reclaim These Streets community campaigners urging everyone to come out with candles or lanterns on their front porches in the evening.
