European Commission deputy head Frans Timmermans has admitted that the EU strategy for ordering vaccines against coronavirus was flawed.
This was reported by the newspaper Tagesspiegel AM Sonntag
“It is true that mistakes were made in the ordering of vaccines by both Brussels and the member states. Once the pandemic is over, we need to take stock and then we can see what we did wrong and what was done right”, – Timmerans said.
Earlier it became known that five EU countries – Austria, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Latvia and Slovenia demanded a summit of the EU to discuss the fairness of distribution of vaccines among the community. The countries are demanding that vaccines be distributed according to population size.
According to the five leaders, the EU mechanism allows the more economically advanced countries to make additional deals for coronavirus vaccines, which could leave other members facing a shortage.
