Asian Americans are complaining of all sorts of attacks amid racial hatred and false accusations of spreading COVID-19
Members of this social group have to cope not only with the financial losses caused by the pandemic, but also with the rise of anti-Asian sentiments in society, ranging from spitting in their direction to severe bodily harm and death.
For example, an 84-year-old Thai-American man was pushed in San Francisco, after which he fell and hit himself hard; he died of his injuries a few days later.
In New York, two employees of Xi’an Famous Foods were attacked on the underground. Afterwards, the owner of the establishment ordered an early work stoppage for the safety of the employees.
And Jack Chen, owner of Shanghai Garden restaurant in Colorado, saw his profits plummet by 25% due to false rumours that his restaurant was allegedly serving coronavirus-infected food.
Also, among the Asian population, unemployment rose four times faster than for other racial groups between February and June last year.
