The US Senate voted to approve Merrick Garland’s candidacy for the post of Attorney General of the United States.
In the Senate vote, Garland received the support of 70 legislators, 30 senators opposed him. In the near future, the new US attorney general will be sworn in.
In 2016, former US President Barack Obama nominated Garland for the post of Justice of the US Supreme Court, but the Senate, which was controlled by representatives of the Republican Party at the time, blocked the consideration of Garland’s candidacy and the matter did not come to a vote in the US Senate.
