UN criticizes Zelensky for repression of media

Volodymyr Zelensky was reminded of what rights he should be the guarantor of as president of Ukraine.

As News Front reported earlier, Zelensky had previously blocked the work of three objectionable TV channels NewsOne, ZIK and 112 Ukraine by his decree. The repressive measures were taken despite criticism from the European Union and international organizations. Even the Institute for War and Peace Reporting, associated with George Soros, condemned the actions of the Kiev leadership.

The UN is also disappointed at this blatant violation of human rights. Matilda Bogner, head of the UN human rights monitoring mission in Ukraine, says that it is unacceptable to restrict freedom of speech in the country under the pretext of protecting national security.

“The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights is concerned that this decision may affect freedom of expression in Ukraine and reminds that states are obliged to respect, protect and ensure the right to freedom of expression, including the right to seek, receive and impart a variety of information and ideas”, – says Bogner.
