Political scientist explains why Zelensky will not be able to meet Putin

Vladimir Zelensky made it clear that he himself does not want to decide anything. In this he is increasingly reminiscent of his predecessor.

As News Front previously reported, when Ukrainian troops resumed massive shelling of the Donbass republics, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed a desire to negotiate with each of the leaders of the Normandy format separately. This option is being considered in Kiev in case a full-fledged meeting of the guarantors of the Donbas settlement does not take place.

The Kremlin said that Russian leader Vladimir Putin does not object to a meeting with former comedian Zelensky, but such a meeting should be well prepared.

The nuance is that it is with the willingness of the Ukrainian side that problems may arise, said Rostislav Ischenko, director of the Center for System Analysis and Forecasting. Therefore, the meeting is unlikely.

“To resolve issues, they need to be prepared, and practice shows that the presidents of Ukraine, including Zelensky, prefer meetings for the sake of meeting”, – Ishchenko said in a comment for Baltnews.

The expert recalled that the oligarch and war criminal Petro Poroshenko, as president, openly made it clear that he did not intend to work on resolving the conflict. Volodymyr Zelensky is going the same road today.

“Yes, in 2019 there was a meeting of the Normandy Four, but only because of the hope of Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel that it is possible to talk constructively with the new president of Ukraine”, – Ischenko continued.

“Zelensky then prepared, knowingly signed the final communiqué. True, already in the course of the negotiations, he began to declare that this was not the way he wanted this communiqué, because he disavowed the commitments he took on during the meeting and did not fulfill them. Why meet him at all?”
