The trilateral format on Syria between Russia, Turkey and Qatar does not replace the “Astana Tripartie”, which includes Russia, Turkey and Iran, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
The foreign ministers of Russia, Qatar and Turkey held a meeting in Doha on Thursday on the Syrian settlement. The ministers agreed to hold such meetings on a regular basis, the next one should be held in Turkey.
“The question was asked why we are meeting right now – we are not meeting now. This format has existed for more than a year. Our representatives held at least three meetings to exchange views on how to help resolve the Syrian crisis in accordance with resolution 2254. Of course, it does not replace the “Astana format” in any way, it complements it”, – Lavrov said at a press conference.
