Robert Koch Institute president Lothar Wheeler said the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic could soon hit Europe if enough people are not vaccinated. In his opinion, the third wave has already begun in Germany.
“In Europe, we must be wary [of the start of the third wave of coronavirus]. I do not want to comment on other countries, we can all see the numbers. As for Germany, we are starting the third wave. We have clear signals. And it is clear that public health measures, including reducing contacts and wearing masks, are still valid”, – Wheeler said at a press conference.
He stressed that Germany and other European countries should vaccinate as many people as possible in the shortest possible time, since only timely immunization of the population will help overcome the coronavirus pandemic.
