Heiko Maas said that this year Russia was celebrating the “so-called Year of Germany with a host of cultural, economic and scientific events”
Germany wants to strengthen its civil exchanges, including those with Russia. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said this at a news conference in Berlin on Tuesday after meeting his colleague from Bosnia and Herzegovina Bisera Turkovic.
“We are arranging this year’s so-called German year in Russia with many cultural, economic and scientific events because we have a great need to improve and deepen contacts between civil societies”, – he said.
“Even in times when governments have difficulties with each other, as is probably the case now, we need to work to eliminate these problems and return to constructive relations. In doing so, we will always try to make the exchange between civil societies more intense”, – he said.
