Roskomnadzor demands Facebook to restore access to Russian media content

The Russian Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskanadzor) demanded Facebook to restore access to Russian media content on 8 March 2021

According to TASS, Roskomnadzor has demanded that Facebook restore access to information materials published by TASS, RBC TV channel and Vzglyad newspaper.

“Roskomnadzor has sent a letter to Facebook management with a demand to restore access to information posted in the official accounts of Russian media outlets Vzglyad, RBC and TASS,” a statement posted on the agency’s Telegram channel said.

Roskomnadzor also said that Facebook’s actions “violate key principles of free distribution of information, unimpeded access to it and are an act of censorship”. The agency reminded that restricting the right of Russian citizens to freely search for information entails an administrative fine of up to 1 million rubles for the owners of the social network and a fine of up to 3 million rubles for a repeat offence.
