Biden calls Pope’s visit to Iraq historic

Francis became first head of the Roman Catholic Church to visit the country

US President Joe Biden praised the role of Pope Francis in strengthening interfaith understanding. This was said in a statement issued by the White House President on Monday in connection with the visit of the head of the Roman Catholic Church to Iraq on March 5-7.

“The visit of Pope Francis was historic. As the Pope himself said, it was an important message that ‘fraternity is stronger than fratricide, hope is stronger than death, and peace is stronger than war,”, –  the text noted.

“I congratulate the government and people of Iraq for the care they have put into organising this visit. I continue to admire the Pope’s commitment to religious tolerance, the common bond of humanity and interfaith understanding”, –  Biden said.
