US admits ceding control of Africa to Russia and China

Methods of extending American dominance in Africa are not working

Although the United States has been cooperating with African countries for many years, now Russia and China have seized the initiative on the continent, writes Foreign Affairs.

According to American magazine, there is an increase in both military and economic activity of Russia and China in Africa. For example, in recent years, Moscow has signed military cooperation agreements with 19 countries of the continent.

Against this background, the standard American approach pales into insignificance. American diplomatic representations in Africa are too small. In addition, they do not have the necessary incentives to engage at the domestic level and at the level of regional organisations. In particular, the U.S. has been slow to cooperate in combating jihadist groups that are active in Africa.
