Two MPs in Germany’s ruling coalition have been found to have accepted a bribe for lobbying a medical mask supplier
Nicholas Lebel, a member of the Christian Democratic Union, is reported to have received €250,000 for helping him sign a government contract with a company supplying medical masks. His colleague Georg Nusslein received over 600,000 euros.
“I take responsibility for my actions and understand the necessary political implications. I would like to apologise to all citizens”, – Lebel said when the scheme was exposed.
Both MPs are now resigning their parliamentary powers. Meanwhile, law enforcers are conducting searches at the residences of the corrupt officials and their relatives in search of accomplices.
