Slovakia expects to begin vaccination with the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in two weeks, said the Ambassador of Slovakia to the Russian Federation Lubomir Regak in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The first batch of Sputnik V vaccine was delivered on Monday from Moscow to the city of Kosice in eastern Slovakia. As Prime Minister Igor Matovich said at a press conference at the airport, it was decided to purchase the Sputnik V vaccine without waiting for its registration in the EU, because, according to the Prime Minister, “there is no time for delay, there is not enough vaccines in the country, every day dozens of our fellow citizens die from COVID-19”.
“Sputnik V vaccination is expected to begin in two weeks, after the inspection of the delivered party by our drug supervision authorities. According to the Minister of Health, from next week a record of those wishing to be vaccinated with the Russian vaccine will be open”, – the ambassador said.
The head of the Ministry of Health of Slovakia, Marek Krajci, signed on Tuesday a permit for the use of the Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus in the country until the end of August 2021. It is envisaged that the practitioner will take full responsibility for the treatment of an unregistered drug. Those wishing to be vaccinated with “Sputnik V” will have to sign an appropriate document that they know that this vaccine has not been registered with the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
