The Belarusian authorities have opened a number of criminal cases against her and her supporters and accuse them of an attempted coup d’etat and the creation of an extremist organization in the country.
According to eadaily, the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Belarus reported that they had sent a request to Lithuania to extradite ex-presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.
“The General Prosecutor’s Office of Belarus has sent a request to the General Prosecutor’s Office of Lithuania to extradite Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to prosecute for crimes against the order of government, public safety and the state”, – the Belarusian ministry informed.

In particular, the General Prosecutor’s Office sent a criminal case against four proxies of the ex-presidential candidate to the Gomel Regional Court.
“After studying the materials of the case, the Prosecutor General’s Office came to the conclusion that the accusation was justified, a complete and objective study of the circumstances of the crimes, and agreed with the qualification of the offense. The prosecutor left the previously chosen measure of restraint for the accused as it was – detention”, – reads a March 5 statement on the website of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Belarus.
According to the case materials, “the accused, acting in a preliminary conspiracy with Tikhanovskaya, planned to organize mass riots in Gomel, seize the buildings of local government bodies, and appoint their heads of administrations and chairmen of executive committees”.
