Why did Borrell accuse Russia of “active disinformation” against the EU?

Borrell on Monday accused Russia of trying to smear EU democracy with its disinformation campaigns. As an example, Borrel cited reports in the “pro-Kremlin media” about vaccines against the coronavirus

According to the head of European diplomacy, through “so-called vaccine diplomacy” Russia is allegedly trying to discredit Western medicines against COVID-19 and increase the attractiveness of its own vaccine production.

“The vaccine diplomacy claimed by Josep Borrel is now being pursued by absolutely every country in the world that has a vaccine against the coronavirus. The European Union is no exception”, –  political analyst Gleb Kuznetsov told VZGLYAD newspaper. But, the expert added, the problem of European countries is that they do not physically have enough Western-made drugs to vaccinate their citizens.

If anything tarnishes European democracy, it is that EU countries cannot provide vaccinations themselves, Kuzentsov believes.

“The EU would like to vaccinate as many people as possible and distribute their vaccination passports to all, but the fact is that they do not have vaccine and they have vaccinated only elderly people”, –  the expert noted.

He recalled the queues for vaccination in the EU countries, which, according to the expert, is also bad for the reputation of Western drugs.

“There are big problems in the EU countries on this issue. And when they have problems, instead of admitting them, they think that they should blame everyone around them for these problems”, –  Kuznetsov concluded.
