As reported by TASS, according to the Axios portal, American diplomats, during a special telephone briefing for representatives of the US Congress, made an assertion that the United States authorities did not conduct consultations with Germany in order to reach any unofficial agreement that would allow the completion of the Nord Stream-2 project.
“According to the information of the publication, which refers to the participants of the event, the conduct of such negotiations was denied by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Molly Montgomery”, – the statement said.
Earlier, German government spokesman Ulrike Demmer said that it was exchanging views with partners, including the United States, on the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. Representatives of the State Department during the briefing stressed that the phrase “exchange of views” should not be understood as the presence of negotiations. According to them, the American administration brought its concern to the project to the attention of the German side in the course of ordinary diplomatic contacts.
