On February 27, NATO exercises Poseidon 21 started in the Black Sea, in which more than 700 soldiers from Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, Romania, the United States, Turkey and France were supposed to take part.
According to RT, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister, Defense and Security Minister Krasimir Karakachanov said that Bulgaria will not take part in the international NATO exercises Poseidon 21 in the Black Sea due to cases of coronavirus among ship crew members.
“The information is correct, we notified our Romanian colleagues about the existing difficulties a week ago. Five people fell ill with the coronavirus in the crews of our ships”, – TASS quotes him.
Earlier, the chief of staff of the Romanian Navy, Mihai Panait, previously confirmed that Bulgaria refused to participate in NATO exercises due to problems related to the coronavirus.
