The European Union calls on member states of the United Nations to consider imposing sanctions against the Russian Federation over Crimea. This was said in a statement by Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrel
The statement noted that seven years after the return of Crimea, the European Union “firmly defends Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.
“The European Union reiterates that it does not recognise and continues to condemn this violation of international law. Such a violation remains a direct challenge to international security, with serious implications for the international legal order, which protects the territorial integrity, unity and sovereignty of all States. The European Union remains determined to fully implement its non-recognition policy, in particular through the application of restrictive measures and cooperation in international arenas. The EU reiterates its call on UN Member States to consider these measures in line with UN General Assembly Resolution 68/262 of 27 March 2014”, – it said in a statement.
