The head of the State Department press service, Ned Price, stressed that the US shared the concerns of some of its allies regarding the project
At a briefing on Tuesday, State Department spokesman Ned Price said US authorities would not hesitate to take additional measures against those involved in the Nord Stream 2 project if necessary.
“It is also important in relation to your question that we have consulted closely with our European partners and allies. I think it’s fair to say that none of our partners or allies were surprised by what was ultimately in that assessment”, – Price continued, – “So we have stated unequivocally that Nord Stream 2″ is a bad deal. It is a bad deal for Europe. What we presented on Friday is not the end of the story. We will continue to monitor, assess if there are grounds for additional policy responses, we will not hesitate to take them.”
Price recalled that the State Department had previously sent a report to Congress with a list of entities involved in the construction of Nord Stream 2. The Foreign Ministry’s report mentioned the Fortuna vessel and its owner, KVT-Rus. They were already under sanctions under the Countering America’s Adversaries through Sanctions Act at the time. On Monday, Fortuna and KVT-Rus were also added to the sanctions list under the Protecting European Energy Security Act.
