Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said more than 1,200 foreign diplomats, representatives of international organizations and foreign journalists have visited Xinjiang in recent years
The Chinese government has protested to Britain over allegations of human rights violations in China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR). Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said this at a regular briefing on Wednesday.
“The British side has insulted the podium of the UN Human Rights Council to spread false information, denigrating and attacking China and interfering in its internal affairs. We strongly protest in this regard”, – he said.
More than 1,200 foreign diplomats, representatives of international organisations and foreign journalists have visited Xinjiang in recent years, he said.
“The UK politicises human rights, uses double standards and also tends to take on the role of a mentor to criticise and pressure other countries. However, at the same time, this country ignores serious human rights violations on its territory”, – the diplomat said.
British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab on Monday at the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council accused Chinese authorities of harassing Uighurs in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. He said human rights violations included torture, forced labour and forced sterilisation of women. Raab said “the scale of the violations can be described as industrial”, and called for urgent and unimpeded access to Xinjiang for the UN high commissioner for human rights or another independent expert.
