The Russian embassy in the US has said that US lawmakers in geopolitical purposes continue to interfere in religious affairs in Ukraine and Crimea
“US lawmakers continue to cynically interfere in religious affairs in Crimea and Ukraine. The commitment to religious freedom is being used as a political slogan. They are once again trying to impose the logic of extraterritorial application of national legislation. It is unacceptable to use the feelings and faith of millions of people for geopolitical purposes”, – the embassy said in a statement on Twitter.
The diplomatic mission’s statement refers to a bill that was introduced in late January in the US House of Representatives. The authors of the document believe that “Russia and armed groups controlled by Russia violate freedom of religion in Ukraine”. The lawmakers demand that the US administration “take action” against Russia.
