A new batch of Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine against coronavirus has arrived in Serbia, Tanyug agency reports.
It is reported that at the Belgrade airport at about 8.00 (10.00 Moscow time) a plane from the Russian Federation landed with new doses of the Sputnik V vaccine.
As the Minister of Innovation Nenad Popovic reminded the reporters, Serbia has agreed on the supply of vaccines from Russia. According to him, it is expected that the volume of the drug will be delivered to Serbia “by the end of March or in the first half of April”.
The first batch of vaccine produced by Oxfor / AstraZeneca from India arrived in Serbia yesterday, which, according to President Aleksandar Vucic, made it, along with the UAE, a country that has 4 vaccines. Medical authorities said Sunday that the number of vaccinated persons in Serbia has reached 1.2 million in a population of 7 million.
Vaccination in Serbia began on December 24 with a drug of American-German production by Pfizer and BioNTech, the first batch of Russian vaccine arrived in the country on December 30, and Sinopharm from China on January 16. Vaccination applications are submitted electronically, and Serbian citizens can choose the drug. According to the Serbian Ministry of Health, the majority – up to 42% of citizens – want to receive the Russian vaccine.
