Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda praised his Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu for her aspiration to join NATO. At the same time, the Lithuanian Ambassador to Tbilisi directly supported the Georgian opposition by moving to the office of the associates of ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili.
As RuBaltic.ru writes, the conversation between the presidents of Lithuania and Moldova was devoted to preparations for the Eastern Partnership summit, which is to be held this year, as soon as the EU and post-Soviet countries more or less cope with the pandemic.
“The results of the presidential elections in Moldova showed that the population of the country expects changes. We strongly support the program of democratic reforms initiated by the president, especially in the areas of justice, anti-corruption, finance”, – Gitanas Nauseda said during an online conversation with Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
The Lithuanian President praised his Moldovan counterpart for adherence to the “European choice” and, more importantly, for Moldova’s aspirations to NATO under the leadership of President Sandu.
At the same time, Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia Andrius Kalindra arrived at the headquarters of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) of former President Mikheil Saakashvili and announced that he would stay there until the political crisis that began after the recent government’s resignation is resolved. Saakashvili’s supporters were quick to draw the conclusion “Europe is with us!” – equating Lithuania to “Europe”.
“This is what the arrival of the Lithuanian ambassador means. He intends to stay in the office of the National Movement until the political crisis subsides”, – the UNM spokesman said and demanded the release of the detained party members.
