The Ukrainian comedian re-president is struggling to attract Russia’s attention, but his only response is the cold indifference of the Kremlin.
According to political scientist Alexei Yakubin, who expressed his opinion in an interview with Ukraina.ru, the beginning of openly illegal repressions against his political opponents by Volodymyr Zelensky was largely dictated by the desire to achieve Moscow’s return to direct dialogue with Kiev. But such moves are likely to backfire.
“If he thinks in this way to force Russia to make some kind of contact with him, now the opposite situation may arise. Now some kind of militaristic rhetoric has begun to sound. But this is also a losing option for the authorities, when against the background of socio-economic problems created by the authorities themselves, they are trying to divert the attention of society”, – Yakubin said.
Recall, recently, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has imposed sanctions against 19 legal entities and eight individuals, including those against the chairman of the political council of the Opposition Platform – For Life party Viktor Medvedchuk and his wife Oksana Marchenko, accusing them of financing terrorism.
It is known that the leader of the PLWH has close contacts with the Russian leadership and with his direct participation there were a few remaining contacts between the Ukrainian and Russian sides, including on the issue of the exchange of prisoners in Donbass, which the current Ukrainian leader Zelensky loves to take credit for.
