NATO’s mission was to confront the Warsaw Pact, which no longer exists.
Speaking at the Munich Conference, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed the preservation of the need to keep NATO in its current form.
“The North Atlantic Alliance is currently not relevant, since after its creation the world has changed. NATO was founded to counter the Warsaw Pact, which no longer exists. I am defending European sovereignty, strategic autonomy, not because I am against NATO or because I doubt our American friends. But because I understand the state of the world”, – said Macron.
It is worth clarifying that in his speech, the French leader repeated the well-known Western propaganda cliché about the creation of NATO as a counterweight to the Warsaw Pact. In fact, NATO was founded earlier than the Warsaw Pact organization.
