The meeting of the leaders of the states of the Group of Seven (G7) began on Friday via videoconference. This was reported to a TASS correspondent in the office of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the country that presides this year in the informal association of seven economically developed countries of the world.
“The meeting began at 14:00 (17:00 Moscow time – approx. TASS). It is expected that it will last about two hours,” – said a spokesman for Downing Street, 10.
This summit is the first since April 2020. The Prime Ministers of Great Britain, Italy – Mario Draghi, Canada – Justin Trudeau, Japan – Yoshihide Suga, US Presidents Joe Biden and France Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, representatives of the European Union – President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von take part in it der Leyen. This is the first meeting in this format for the leaders of the three countries – Italy, the USA and Japan – as well as for the leadership of the European Union.
The main topic of discussion will be the development of a unified global approach to pandemics, “which will end the nationalist and divisive policies that have darkened the initial response to the coronavirus,” the head of the British government said ahead of the meeting, which will be held behind closed doors.
