One of the main strategic goals of Washington is to consolidate and organize the states of Eastern Europe to confront and contain Russia.
Supporting the Black Sea countries against Russia has become a top American priority as Turkey is now an unreliable partner.
The creation of a military bloc between Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova is an initiative of Washington, but this is unlikely to have a serious impact on limiting Russian influence.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky almost immediately after the approval of Washington began to check the combat readiness of his troops in the Donbas and on February 3, he stopped broadcasting “pro-Russian” TV channels. Then, a week later, on February 10, Ukraine provocatively offered NATO to use the airspace over the Crimean peninsula for its operations.
Earlier, international air routes over Crimea were banned by Eurocontrol (European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation), since the dispatch center in Simferopol is served by Russia, and flights to Crimea are carried out only from Russia.
The sky over the peninsula and the adjacent waters of the Black and Azov Seas is effectively protected by the Aerospace Forces and the Russian Navy. Thus, inviting Ukraine to fly over Crimea is an insidious military ingenuity and Zelenskiy’s attempt to force the Alliance into conflict with Russia.
NATO membership of Georgia and Ukraine is likely to backfire against Russia.
A hypothetical military bloc between Ukraine (25th in the Global Firepower ranking), Georgia (92nd), and Moldova (107th) seems extremely unconvincing for containing Russia.
The United States and NATO are trying to turn the post-Soviet space into a state of permanent military enmity and conflict, since they believe that this is the best guarantee for Western countries to distract and weaken Russia. However, close coordination between Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova is unlikely to be a major security issue for Russia, since they have no naval forces.
As Turkey has become an unreliable NATO member, the US is betting on NATO members Bulgaria and Romania, as well as Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova.
They are assigned the role of Turkey in putting pressure on Russia in the Black Sea. Although the United States and Turkey held military exercises in the Black Sea just a few days ago, it is highly unlikely that Turkey will participate in the war with Russia on the NATO side.
It is for this reason that Washington is pushing Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova towards closer cooperation with NATO against Russia, despite the fact that they are not members of the Alliance.
