For most Americans, the two current mainstream parties in the United States — the Democratic and the Republican — are “not working well”.
According to Interfax-Ukraine, the United States needs a third major political party, according to 62% of Americans who took part in a public opinion poll conducted by the Gallup Institute.
“Respondents note that the two current mainstream parties in the United States – the Democratic and Republican – are “doing poorly”, – The Hill reports, citing the survey results.
“At the same time, 33% of respondents that Democrats and Republicans perform tasks “adequately”, representing most American political views”.
The study found that positive ratings on both parties were below 50%, with Democrats at 48% and Republicans at 37%. Four out of 10 Republicans believe their party should become more conservative after former President Donald Trump’s term ends. 34% hope that it will remain the same, and 24% want to see it moderate.
According to researchers, the demand of Americans for a political alternative has never been so high.
