The fight against the disagreeable in the United States is reaching a new level, as the Democratic administration plans to benefit from the storming of the Capitol.
As News Front previously reported, the new year in the United States began with massive protests in Washington. Conservative Americans opposed the recognition of the results of the presidential elections, during which cases of vote-rigging were recorded. The action turned into an assault on the building of the US Congress. The protest was suppressed, after which repression began against supporters of Donald Trump.
But the Democratic administration is clearly not going to dwell on what the FBI is already calling the biggest hunt in the agency’s history. Now those in power are discussing the adoption of a law on domestic terrorism, which will give the special services even more powers, which openly violate human rights. The behavior of the authorities resembles their reaction to the 9/11 attack, writes Newsweek, but the attempt to equate the republican electorate with al-Qaeda* or the Islamic State* looks extremely dubious.
The measures taken in the United States after the September 11, 2001 attack have already had a lot of negative side effects. It got to the point that Muslim Americans are treated with suspicion, they are being watched by FBI agents, criminal cases are opened against them, without any evidence of criminal activity. With extensive powers, the feds infiltrated their agents into mosques, student groups, and community organizations. They carried out special operations, detaining people who were simply in the wrong place and at the wrong time.
“Programs aimed at Muslim Americans have too often blurred the line between faith and behavior”, – the article says.
“Government-sponsored initiatives to combat violent extremism see Muslim political views – such as concerns about human rights abuses or US foreign policy – as the hallmark of someone who can become a terrorist”.
It got to the point that those who were previously discriminated against began to be classified as potential terrorists. The problem is that such measures did not help to identify the terrorists, but provoked a negative reaction among the population.
Given the new plans of the Washington elites, the lesson was not learned. Now they are ready to classify as terrorists the Republican social activists and simply Trump supporters. If all this is supported by the adoption of a law on internal terrorism, then entire public organizations expressing their position can be ranked among the dangerous elements. No one takes into account the fact that not every Capitol protester is a member of the far-right group or an ardent racist. Instead, people are already accused of committing the most serious crimes, such as conspiracy to overthrow the legitimate government, simply for exercising their constitutional rights.
“Even leaving aside the problems associated with the First Amendment, the sifting of groups is inherently political, which causes abuse”, – stated in the publication.
