Senator Alexei Pushkov in his Telegram channel commented on the acquittal of former US President Donald Trump in the impeachment case.
According to the Russian politician, the balance of power in the US Senate “is not such that impeachment could pass” and Trump’s acquittal was quite expected.
“Trump remains on the political scene. The impeachment circus was set up to weaken him as the leader of the Republican Party. But as claims accumulate against the Biden administration, this story will be forgotten. And Trump may have a chance for revenge”, – Pushkov said.
According to the deputy head of the international committee of the Federation Council, Vladimir Dzhabarov, the impeachment announcement to the former American president could negatively affect the political future of the Republican Party. He also suggested that the political situation in the United States will be difficult.
“This decision was expected, if the impeachment took place, it would be a heavy blow to the Republican Party. Their candidates would not be taken seriously at the midterm congressional elections, as well as at the presidential elections”, – Dzhabarov told RIA Novosti.
