EU not to change association agreement with Ukraine

The EU has officially agreed to “revise” the agreement, but has not agreed to amend it

According to Korrespondent, at a press conference after Thursday’s meeting of the Association Council, European Commissioner Oliver Varghei said that the EU had agreed to “revise” the Association Agreement with Ukraine, but had not yet agreed to change it.

“Reviewing the agreement means not only finding new areas where it applies, but also implementing (what is in the Agreement). So we will start by assessing the implementation of the Association Agreement”, –  he said, –  “We believe there is no need to change the agreement. It is flexible enough to expand our cooperation. But we are ready to consider requests from Ukraine regarding new areas, if any.”

We shall remind you that earlier the EU announced trade negotiations with Ukraine. Tomorrow Brussels will host the seventh meeting of the EU-Ukraine association council, which will raise the issue of trade liberalization.
