U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price said the U.S. has not changed its position on Turkey’s purchase of S-400 air defense systems from Russia and continues to regard it as a threat to NATO
“Our policy on C-400 has not changed: the Russian C-400 is incompatible with NATO equipment, it is a threat to NATO technology, it is inconsistent with Turkey’s commitments as a NATO ally”, – Price said in a briefing.
The US State Department spokesman urged Turkey not to retain the C-400s as US authorities believe Russia “could use the systems to gain information about the F-35 fifth-generation fighter-bombers”.
Earlier, it was reported that Turkey might refuse a second C-400 contract on the condition that the US stops cooperating with the YPG Kurds in Syria.
