Russia’s new submarine capabilities cause great concern for NATO

Business Insider military columnist Christopher Woody said that the new capabilities of the Russian Navy’s submarine fleet are a growing concern for Washington and its NATO allies. He wrote this in an article published on February 10

The author noted that the increased range and quietness of Russian submarines. Their new missile armament allows them to attack the enemy from long distances, he added.

The columnist pointed to a large-scale exercise by the Russian submarine fleet to stealthily pass into the North Atlantic from the Arctic Ocean in late 2019. The US and NATO anti-submarine exercise near Iceland took place in July 2020, and Washington conducted a similar exercise in the North Atlantic in September the same year with its own forces.

“These US and NATO exercises reflect their concern about the combat capabilities of enemy submarines navigating in Atlantic waters”, –  Woody concluded. Whereas in past wars submarines hunted enemy ships, today’s Russian submarines are capable of launching missile strikes far into land territory, he explained
